Giving to the Library
You can support literacy and innovation, foster community, and provide lifelong learning opportunities by donating funds, materials, or time to the Library.
How to Give to the Library
Donations to the library will only be accepted if they align with the library's mission, values, and goals. Gifts should be unrestricted or given in a flexible way to maximize their usefulness. If the designated purpose is no longer practical or necessary, the library may use the gift for a related purpose. Gifts should not impose undue financial burdens on the library.
The library may accept or decline any gift that doesn't comply with these guidelines. Donations can be directed towards programs, collections, services, equipment, operations, or capital improvements. Upon request, the library will acknowledge any donation but won't value or appraise the gift. Once a gift is accepted, the library will determine its disposition.
We appreciate your generosity in donating your gently used books to us! However, as storage space is limited, we kindly request that you donate books that primarily center around the history of Wilcox and the surrounding regions. We hope to broaden our scope in the future and accept other genres of books as well. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
The Library is open to accepting tangible gifts such as art, decorative objects, furnishing and equipment. However, it does not function as a museum, so gifts of items for permanent display or preservation are not typically accepted. The Library Director makes the final decision on accepting tangible gifts. The decision is based on several criteria, including the Library's need, space, impact on staff time, expense, and maintenance frequency. Once a gift is accepted, the Library has full ownership, possession, use, and disposition rights, and the gift cannot be returned to the donor.
Upon request by the donor, the Library will issue an acknowledgement for non-monetary gifts. However, it cannot appraise or establish a monetary value for the donation. The Library may, at its discretion, provide a plaque or another means of publicly acknowledging the donor for notable tangible gifts that are accepted by the Library.
The Library may accept donations of specialized services or expertise only if they are directly related to the Library's mission and objectives or can be utilized to support an official Library event. The donated services must contribute to the non-financial assets of the Library or require skills that would typically need to be procured if not provided by the donation.
The library accepts unrestricted monetary donations that will be used in accordance with its mission and goals. However, monetary donations for purchasing library materials are accepted only if they align with the library's objectives for its collections. In such cases, the general nature or subject area of the materials to be purchased will be based on the donor's wishes, and library staff will select specific titles in accordance with those wishes and established collection policies.
Restricted monetary donations of less than $10,000 may be accepted by the Director, provided that any restrictions are clearly aligned with the library's mission and goals. However, restricted monetary donations of $10,000 or more require the approval of the Board of Trustees after consulting with the Director and prospective donors to determine suitable projects for the donation. Named funds shall not be created unless the donation is valued at $10,000 or greater.
The library will issue a letter of acknowledgement upon request, and for all monetary donations above the required amount. For notable monetary gifts accepted by the library, it may provide a plaque or other means of publicly acknowledging the donor at its discretion.
